August 20th, 2008 by AK

Costumes are one of the essential things in life. Many people look to wear a suitable and attractive costume to impress others. The modern tradition of dressing up in a adult Halloween costumes and kids Halloween costumes is one that has both Celtic and European roots. Many hundreds of years ago the winter was an uncertain time. With people being scared of the dark and low on food the constant uncertainty of the short winter days would set in. On Halloween it was believed that ghosts would come back to the earth plane and would be encountered if anyone left their home. To avoid being recognized by these unearthly spirits, people would adorn masks and halloween costumes when they ventured out after dark in the hopes these ghosts would mistake them for one of their own. To appease these ghosts, people would also leave food and drink outside their homes to prevent them from entering.

There are various types of Halloween costumes available. Some of them are Adult Costumes, Kids Costumes, Sexy costumes, Pirates Costumes, Toddler Costumes and Renaissance Costumes. First Encounter Today

August 18th, 2008 by AK

Indian team is starting a One-Day series against Sri Lanka on Monday without their explosive opener Virender Sehwag, who has sustained an ankle injury during practice on Sunday. In his absence the Indian camp doesn’t just have to get its own tactics right, they also have to neutralise the potent weapons in the opposition camp. In place of Sehwag, his Delhi teammate Virat Kohli is likely to play.

Sehwag was seen limping out of ground yesterday after the practice session after being struck by a ball. Nineteen-year-old Kohli, is likely to make his debut for India.

The Indian team is already without Sachin Tendulkar, who withdrew from the series after sustaining an elbow injury during the third and final Test. India lost the three-Test series 1-2.

I’m Back

August 14th, 2008 by AK

Well my Madurai Trip was awesome and had lot of joy and fun. Usually during my school days, I use to go to Madurai atleast once a year but after joining college I just went once in four years. I missed a lot and finally this time I didnot miss my chance to go there. We went there for Pongal on August 8,9,10 and we four, me, my brother and my two cousins as usual celebrated with our families. We use to go to temple in evenings and watch stage programmes in nights with our gang friends. We slept at 4 in night and woke up at 8 in morning. The lunch for all three days were just amazing. There will be atleast two non-veg items, either chicken & mutton or chicken & fish. I enjoyed food and ate well after years because it was prepared by my grandma. We never had time to relax or sleep but we didnot wish for it either. After three days of good enjoyment, we four returned home. We thought of spending a week there but didn’t. Dont know when we will go there next time but definitely miss my village very much….

Why Women Cry

August 12th, 2008 by AK

A little boy asked his mother, ‘Why are you crying?’ ‘Because I’m a woman,’ she told him. ‘I don’t understand,’ he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, ‘And you never will.’ Later the little boy asked his father, ‘Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?’ ‘All women cry for no reason,’ was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry. Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone, he asked, ‘God, why do women cry so easily?’ God said:

‘When I made the woman she had to be special. I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort. I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children. I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly. I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart. I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.

And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed.’ ‘You see my son,’ said God, ‘the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides.’

Arnie Confused By New “Terminator”

August 10th, 2008 by AK

Former Terminator turned California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger seems unsure about the next “Terminator” movie. Talking with The Los Angeles Times, Schwarzenegger revealed he was given a private screening of early footage from “Terminator Salvation” by producers of the franchise reboot directed by McG. Arnie says “I still don’t know how it will play out with this one. They showed me some footage, but I don’t have a feel for the movie. I didn’t see enough. I wasn’t sure who the Terminator was. I don’t know if there is one or if he’s the star or the hero. These are the things that determine the success and how the strong the movie will be.”

Big special effects are what he thinks will lead to the film’s success, saying that “If [director McG] has the T4 and the kind of shots that has the audience thinking, ‘Now how did he do that?’ — then it is ‘Terminator’ and you can blow everyone away and every record at the box office.” He does however hope that those involved are successful - “I’ve seen very little footage so I don’t really have a feel for it. I hope they do well, and I hope it is a huge hit. I do hope it creates a spectacle on the screen. That is what James Cameron created.”

“Terminator Salvation” is currently being filmed in New Mexico.

Mark Wahlberg for “Max Payne”

August 9th, 2008 by AK

Now starring in the film adaptation of the video game Max Payne, Wahlberg says that the one thing he will never do is play that or any other video game. Playing a DEA cop in the John Moore-directed actioner, Wahlberg was hooked on the film from the get go. The actor says that he was able to make a two-dimensional character from a video game more multi-faceted with the help of director John Moore.

Despite his recent Oscar nomination for The Departed, Wahlberg has no problem choosing pure popcorn movies. He’s clearly no snob. Wahlberg is having the time of his life, kids, impending marriage, acting and producing. He laughs when asked how he manages to juggle all his divergent responsibilities. After all, Wahlberg’s private life is a priority with a new baby on the way. The actor also has high hopes for Peter Jackson’s troubled The Lovely Bones.

Countdown Begins

August 7th, 2008 by AK

The Olympic flame on Wednesday embarked on its final leg to a boisterous welcome by cheering and rapturous flag-waving crowd two days before the eagerly awaited and long cherished sporting mega event begins in the Chinese capital.

The flame started from the landmark Forbidden City as tens of thousands of residents of Beijing gathered to receive it after it completed its longest distance of any Olympic torch relay that took it through 137,000 kms across six continents over 129 days.

It will pass through Beijing for three days, carried by a total of 841 torch-bearers and will cover 16.4 km on the first day. The crowd gathered at the historic Tiananmen Square since early morning, holding aloft the red Chinese national flags and the white Beijing Olympics flags.

Chinese first astronaut Yang Liwei received the torch from Liu Qi, President of the Beijing Organising Committee at a brief ceremony held at the small square in front of the 558-year old Forbidden Citys Meridian Gate embellished by red carpets and flags.

India thrashes SriLanka to level series 1-1

August 3rd, 2008 by AK

India bounced back in dramatic style after losing the first Test, thrashing Sri Lanka by a whopping 170 runs in the second Test at the Galle International Cricket Ground here Sunday inside four days. Chasing a target of 307 runs, the Sri Lankans collapsed for 136, barely 45 minutes before close of play.

Harbhajan Singh returned a match haul of ten wickets, including four in the second innings, for 153 runs and Virender Sehwag hit an unbeaten double ton in the first innings and a half-century in the second to set-up the victory for India. The efforts of Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis, who took his maiden 10-wicket haul, were overshadowed by that of the two Indians.

Harbhajan finished with four wickets in the second innings as Sri Lanka were bundled out inside 48 overs. This was Sri Lanka’s third lowest total against India and their lowest against the same opponents at home. Virender Sehwag was adjudged Man of the Match for his outstanding effort….

No.1 Nadal

August 2nd, 2008 by AK

Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal ensured he will take the world number one spot after reaching the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters on Friday. Nadal’s 7-6 6-1 win over Nicolas Lapentti means the Spaniard will end Roger Federer’s four-and-a-half-year reign on 18 August at the latest. Federer’s run of 235 consecutive weeks at the top of the ATP rankings was put in jeopardy when he was knocked out of the tournament on Thursday by 16th seed Ivo Karlovic. Nadal has been right behind him in second place since 25 July 2005, a span of 158 straight weeks.

And with two more wins this weekend, the 22-year-old would trade places with the Swiss, who he beat in last month’s epic Wimbledon final as well as in the French Open final in June. Nadal’s win over Ecuador’s Lapentti was his 32nd straight victory, taking him a step closer to a sixth successive tournament triumph. Should Nadal lose Sunday’s final he would top the rankings on 11 August, while a semi-final defeat would delay his coronation for another week. But he admitted he will need to change up a gear if he wants to progress past third seed Djokovic.

Indian Cricket

July 29th, 2008 by AK

Indian Cricket is going through a tuff phase. It is suffering from lack of good, efficient fast bowlers. We can easily count the number of good fast bowlers India had for the past 30 years. In the recent times, the only good bowler India had was Javagal Srinath and he too retired five years back. Still India is searching for an effiecient fast bowler.

Though many young bowlers got a chance to play for India, they didnot prove to be efficient. Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, L.Balaji, Irfan Pathan, Sreesanth, R.P.Singh, V.R.V.Singh, Munaf Patel are some of the fast bowlers trying to make it to the Indian team. But they find it difficult to do it because of inefficiency. Indian Premier League(IPL) brought many young players to light and they proved to be promising. Some of them are Manpreet Gony, Ashok Dinda, Yomahesh, Praveen Kumar, Sidharth Trivedi and Ishant Sharma.

Though these players seem to be promising, they dont have enough experience to handle pressure. The only current fast bowler who bowls efficiently and with consistent speed is Ishant Sharma but he is overburdened much and hence he is also not able to perform much. The scenario has to be changed. With three coaches for Indian Cricket team, it is still a wondering factor that why there is lack in efficiency. BCCI should take some serious steps to handle this issue. Otherwise there will be no permanent solution to this issue….

High Alert!!!

July 28th, 2008 by AK

Will it be Chennai or Madurai??? Well, the entire nation, including major metro cities in India, have been put on high alert, with fears of more attacks after at least 46 people were killed in two days of bombings that hit Ahmedabad and Bangalore.

At least 16 bombs exploded in Ahmedabad in Gujarat on Saturday, killing at least 45 people and wounding 161, a day after another set of blasts in Bangalore killed a woman. Two more unexploded bombs were found in Surat on Sunday. A little-known group called the ‘Indian Mujahideen’ claimed responsibility for the Ahmedabad blasts on Saturday. The same group said it carried out bomb attacks in Jaipur that killed 63 people in May.

Many of the bombs were packed into metal tiffin boxes, used to carry food, and stuffed with ball-bearings. Some were left on bicycles. So people, be very careful.. Both the Ahmedabad and Bangalore are in states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party!

Many people predict that Tamil Nadu might be their next target.. That too, Chennai or Madurai, in particular.. But the problem with Chennai people is that, if such things happen, they dont care for too long and after two days or so, they just simply start to concentrate on upcoming Superstar’s movie….

Non-Stop NIIT

July 26th, 2008 by AK

Well there is no end to my GNIIT course. I joined my GNIIT course in December, 2004. But still I dint complete my course. There are totally four semesters in this course. After each semester, there will be a break for the students usually for one month. The first two semesters had been completed on time. But then there were many faculty and HOC changes. The centre also got shifted to a new place. We saw some five faculties for third semester alone. The classes were not conducted properly but with some good faculties we completed third semester in time. Then we had a break for nearly more than a year. The classes didnot commence at all. Many of the students stopped the course and went to jobs. Atlast they started with a new HOC and now the classes are conducted regularly. Lets hope we finish our course and get our certificates soon….

Problem with BSNL

July 23rd, 2008 by AK

It was a real shock for all BSNL users today. When I entered my username and password to check my usage details, I got the details of some other person’s usage. Was completely shocked to see that and tried many times but got different person’s usage details each time I checked. Then I asked my friends and they said they were also experiencing the same problem. Relieved to some extent. The problem might be due to the database collisions in server and its with the BSNL to solve this problem. Anyway there will be a back up for the database. SInce from morning we are facing this problem and till BSNL didnot solve this issue. They prove that they are our government in each and every issue. Lets hope that this is rectified soon and we get back our own usage details….

Degree to my Name

July 22nd, 2008 by AK

Its a long dream for students like us to get a engineering degree. Once when I entered into my college, I lost my interest towards studies and started to enjoy my life. We, our gang, dint even listen to what the teachers said, instead were teasing them. We bunked classes for atleast twice a week, went to movies, stayed in friends’ rooms, boozed often whenever we got some money in our pocket, did all the things what a college student can do. The result, was the first arrear in my life, in my third semester. But I expected this because I felt lazy to buy the original book of that subject during my exam and experienced the pain. I didnot clear that paper till my sixth semester and finally cleared in seventh. In addition to this, I kept four different arrears in each of the semesters from fourth to seventh. Finally entered into the last semester of my engineering life. Days passed very soon as we were concentrating on our project works. Completed the project work successfully and started to prepare for our exams. As usual our gang me, Nitin, Subramani and Sridhar assembled in a common place, either in my place or Nitin’s place. Each one of them shared each subject with particular units and exactly three days before the exam,we shared what we studied. Successfully we completed our studies and also all the three exams. I had one arrear and thankfully got five days leave for it and studied all the five units without leaving any topic. Then fate came into play. When we received the question paper, everyone was shocked. Out of 100 marks, maximum 20 marks would have been from the book, rest was completely on own and we had no idea. We started to laugh for a moment, but then took it as a challenge and wrote for full 100 marks for exactly 3 hours. Came out of the hall with a satisfaction. Result came as ALL CLEAR. Though its not a big thing, it was a real achievement in life. And today when I got my certificates from college, cherished with joy, but didnot show it outside. However crossed the first half of my life and now comes the biggest challenge, with my career. Lets be positive and see how it goes….

‘Dark Knight’ sets box office record

July 20th, 2008 by AK

“The Dark Knight” became the highest single-day grossing movie in Hollywood history, collecting a staggering $66.4 million in its first 24 hours of release, Warner Bros. said Saturday. The much-anticipated flick, co-starring the late Heath Ledger as a particularly psychotic Joker, soared past the old one-day mark of $59.8 million set last year by “Spider-Man 3.” The huge one-day number indicates “The Dark Knight,” the second installment with Christian Bale as a brooding Batman, could smash the all-time opening weekend record of $151.1 million held by “Spider-Man 3.” The movie - with a reported $180 million pricetag - appears a lock to leapfrog “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” as the biggest first weekend film of 2008. “The Dark Knight” collected a record $18.5 million alone at midnight screenings, besting the old record of $16.9 million set by “Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith” in 2005. While critics are taking the film seriously enough to suggest Ledger could be in line for an Academy Award nomination, the action-packed movie also delivers as pure summer movie escapism.

Team India arrives in Colombo

July 14th, 2008 by AK

Indian cricket team, led by Anil Kumble, arrived to play a three-Test series against Sri Lanka starting July 23. One-day and Twenty20 team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has opted out of this series, citing fatigue caused by non-stop cricket. The Indians will start their campaign with a three-day practice match against Sri Lanka Board XI from Friday. They play their first Test in Colombo from July 23. The Test series would be followed by a five-match ODI series. India has won only one of the four Test series they have played in Sri Lanka since 1985. Their previous tour in 2001 ended in a 2-1 defeat.

The Sri Lankan fans are eagerly waiting to witness Indian cricket maestro Sachin Tendulker reach yet another historic landmark by breaking West Indies Brian Lara’s record of maximum Test runs. He needs 172 runs to overhaul retired Lara’s record of 11,953 runs in Tests. At present, the 35-year old Tendulkar, playing his 20th international season, is on 11,782. Tendulkar, who made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1989, has so far played in 147 Tests, scoring 39 centuries and 49 half-centuries, averaging 55.31. Lara, who retired at the end of 2006, made 34 centuries and 48 half-centuries in 131 Tests, for an average of 52.88.

A dangerous precedent, says Left

July 12th, 2008 by AK

The Left parties on Tuesday indicted the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for setting a “dangerous precedent” with the Prime Minister being asked to personally intervene to mediate between the Ambani brothers. “The corporate houses are openly in the fray to lobby their interests in the run-up to the confidence vote [being faced by the Manmohan Singh government in the Lok Sabha],” the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said in a statement. The CPI(M) Polit Bureau said: “The PMO should not become the conciliation office for warring corporates, however desperate the ruling party may be to retain power.”

The CPI said it was shocking the Prime Minister and the PMO were being dragged into the corporate war.

Rejecting the Left’s allegation, the PMO said there was no question of the Prime Minister getting involved in corporate affairs. The PMO said Dr. Singh’s meeting with Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani on Monday was part of his regular interaction with industry leaders.
